Under-18s in Sunday double header at Sale
The 12 noon kick-off is the pre-cursor to the Premiership Rugby Cup game between the two clubs at 3pm at the same venue, Newcastle’s youngsters looking to build on a promising start which sees them placed second in the Under-18s Academy League Northern Conference.
Since losing their first game against champions Leicester Tigers the Falcons have won three in a row, beating Yorkshire Carnegie (22-14), Northampton Saints (10-41) and Worcester Warriors (33-21).
Academy head coach James Ponton said: “Sunday is another great opportunity for the lads to showcase their talents to a wider audience by playing in a Premiership stadium on the day of a first team game.
“We had a tough season-opener at home to the champions Leicester, having not had much time to work with the players, but we have won every game since then and really benefited from the increased preparation period.
“I would love to play Leicester again to see how much we have improved since that opening game, but it’s a great experience for the lads playing over at Sale and hopefully we will have a decent crowd in to see what they can do.”
