UNDER 7’S AND UNDER 8’S FESTIVAL GOES DOWN A STORM
The day began for the teams at 10.30am with registration and a warm up before dodging the puddles to begin group games at 11.15. With teams coming from all over the North of England including Cumbria, north Yorkshire and the Scottish borders, the festival was a great opportunity to play teams which had never come into contact before. Gary Strain and Michael Tait were on hand to visit the players at the festival, chatting to those one the side-lines and handing out tips. They also chose Billingham RFC as the team to participate in the guard of honour for their display of good sportsmanship.
The juniors managed to play two hours of rugby before the heavens opened and play was abandoned in favour of a warm change of clothes and a seat in the west stand! All participants were invited to watch the game against London Irish which came after the festival.
Four teams were also chosen to carry out a display game at half time on the main pitch in front of the huddling spectators. Two teams from Morpeth, one from Rockcliff and one from Duns had the highest average tries scored per game and so were invited to play.
We hope that all who participated had a great day, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Kingston Park soon.
