VACANCIES: Academy and junior academy physiotherapists
**ACADEMY PHYSIOTHERAPIST (full time)**
Newcastle Falcons are looking to appoint a qualified physiotherapist to oversee medical cover for their junior and senior academy programme.
The successful applicant will directly report to the head academy physiotherapist and will be responsible for the provision of sports physiotherapy to the academy, and assisting the head academy physiotherapist in developing this service.
The successful applicant will be responsible for sports physiotherapy service provision at training and matches to full and part time academy players and junior players involved in the schools, clubs and AASE scheme. There will also be some scope to assist in treating the 1st XV when able.
The multi-disciplinary team at Newcastle Falcons consists of coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, nutritionists, SEM consultant, Trauma consultant, GP, sports physiotherapists and masseurs.
This role will require a high standard of communication to liaise with and develop the school and club programme for all age group players. The applicant will also require a flexible approach to working hours as the job involves evening and weekend working. Regular in-service training and external CPD funding will be provided as will mentoring and regular appraisal.
**Qualifications:**
• BSc (Hons)/MSc Physiotherapy qualification.
• CSP and HCPC registered
• ICIS (or equivalent) sports trauma qualification.
**Knowledge and experience:**
• Experience working with young athletes.
• Experience of sports medicine.
• Experience of working in a professional sports environment.
• Knowledge of the unique demands of professional rugby.
• Knowledge of up to date injury prevention and rehabilitation strategies.
• Knowledge of screening and profiling athletes.
**Personal qualities:**
• Self motivated with excellent work ethic.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work unsupervised.
• A desire to work in high performance sport, work hard and improve professionally as a physiotherapist.

**JUNIOR ACADEMY PHYSIOTHERAPIST (part time)**
In preparation for the 2016/17 season there is an exciting opportunity for a physiotherapist to join the academy team at Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club.
The successful applicant will provide enthusiasm and energy and will be responsible for assisting the junior academy physiotherapist in the delivery of a comprehensive physiotherapy service for the Newcastle Falcons academy. The academy team consists of rugby coaches, sports physiotherapists, SEM Doctor, strength and conditioning coaches, and video analysts.
This would be a fantastic opportunity for physiotherapists looking to gain experience working in elite sport.
**Main purpose of role:**
• To assist the junior academy physiotherapist in the delivery and development of a comprehensive physiotherapy service.
• To strive for clinical excellence in the management of musculoskeletal problems to ensure optimal outcomes for academy players.
• To provide pitch-side first aid cover to RFU standards.
• Complete medical screening tests with all academy athletes and keep up-to-date records of the development and progress of each athlete.
• Attend all Academy training sessions and fixtures where required.
• To conduct all clinical interventions and related actions in line with relevant professional standards, such as CSP and HPC, as well as Newcastle Falcons standards and policies and where applicable, contract parameters and KPIs.
• To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical and professional activities.
• To contribute to multidisciplinary audit research and evaluation of the clinical effectiveness and evidence base for the management of elite athletes.
• Continually update and record clearly via electronic record keeping in line with RFU Premiership guidelines.
Hours: Monday and Thursday evenings 6-9pm. To be flexible and be able to assist junior academy physiotherapist on match days as required.
**Essential:**
• Degree in physiotherapy.
• Experience of working in musculoskeletal outpatients.
• HCPC and CSP registration.
**Desired:**
• Previous experience of working in rugby.
• RFU ICIS (or equivilant) pitch-side qualification.
• Competent in strapping.
• Excellent IT skills.
**Salary scale:** £5,000 – 6,000 pa.
