
Vacancy: Senior academy physiotherapist
Based at Kingston Park in Newcastle upon Tyne, the successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to plan, deliver and review all aspects of medical care with our professional players whilst overseeing the delivery of the Junior Academy. The main focus of the role is injury prevention, assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation.

**Title:** Senior Academy Physiotherapist
**Reports to:** Academy Manager / Head Physiotherapist
**Remuneration:** Starting salary IRO £25-27k (dependant on experience)
**People dimensions:** Support F/T Junior Academy Physiotherapist
**Purpose of role:** To plan, deliver and review all aspects of medical care within the Senior Academy. The main focus of the role is on injury assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation and prevention.
**Key responsibilities:**
* Lead and manage all medical provision for the Senior Academy in line with club directives, working in conjunction with other staff and taking a lead role in the development of all contracted Senior Academy players.
* Provide pitchside cover at all Senior Academy training sessions and ‘A Team’ fixtures in conjunction with other staff, providing strapping requirements, injury management and pitchside extraction where appropriate.
* Provide trauma, triage, screening, assessment and diagnosis of new injuries as well as planning and delivering rehabilitation, treatment and daily management of ongoing injuries to all Senior Academy players.
* Design injury prevention programmes for all Senior Academy players to complete, educating them on the importance of recovery protocols and well-being, filtering this down to the Junior Academy.
* Update coaches daily on injury diagnosis and return to play time frames, communicating with international age group staff and liaising with university and dual registered club medics where appropriate to monitor player progress against objective markers.
* Oversee the Junior Academy programme, attending training sessions to support delivery and ensuring the medical support structure is robust and staff have the support they need.
* Ensure that all RFU / PRL audit requirements are completed on time and that all PGB minimum standards are met, providing detailed reports to the Academy Manager from time to time.
* Provide pitch side medical cover to the Associate Academy group at training sessions, educating players on recovery, injury prevention and management.
* Liaise with Head Academy S+C Coach to devise and deliver injured player rehabilitation programmes as well as leading injury surveillance and research projects from time to time.
* Manage and maintain up-to-date records of all Senior Academy players in accordance with club directives on the rugby squad central player database.
**The successful candidate must have:**
* Experience working in a rugby environment and understanding of youth development/physiology.
* Appropriate professional qualifications including a relevant degree and ICIS (or equivalent).
* Flexibility to work unsociable hours, including evenings and weekends.
* Organised, efficient and able to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Ability to act in a professional, accountable and legally responsible manner at all times.
* Enhanced DBS clearance and a full driving licence with access to a car/transport.
**Key performance indicators:**
* Effectiveness of clinical interventions provided to academy players.
* Up-to-date record keeping and monitoring of each player over time on rugby squad.
* Development of sustainable practices across the academy.
* Adherence to all RFU / PRL regulations to maintain the academy licence.
* Adherence to RFU / PGB minimum standards such as CSP, HPC and other medical protocols.
* Feedback from players / stakeholders on quality of service provided.
