VIDEO: Chick pleased by season’s development.
Callum Chick has enjoyed a breakthrough 2016/17 season with the Falcons and will make his tenth Aviva Premiership appearance in this evening’s game against Worcester Warriors (KO 8 pm) and has hailed the impact of his back row mentors for his progress.
Working with the likes of Ally Hogg, Nili Latu and Mark Wilson has helped him make solid progress while competing with them for positions has, Chick says, aided his development.
Speaking to Falcons TV, Chick said: “They are fantastic players and play right at the top and I’ve learnt lots off them over the past two years. I do a lot of work with Ally, Mark and Nili off the pitch going through games and on the pitch doing skills after training.
“They have a lot of time for me and do a lot of work with me and that is a driving force as well as knowing that I have to be better than them and that is helping in my development because I know I have to be right at the top of my game to be able to get picked at a weekend.”
Starting at number eight against the Warriors, Chick is confident that a strong training week has laid firm foundations for the team.
He added: “Worcester are a very physical team and they beat Bath last week which is no mean feat, Bath are a very good team and are pushing there for the top four, so for Worcester to do that, it just shows the type of rugby that they can play.
“We’ve done a lot of homework and have looked at what they are going to bring and we feel very prepared for the weekend, we’ve had a good training week and feel we can go flying”
