VIDEO: Matavesi previews Sale away
Falcons centre Josh Matavesi is expecting a battle at the AJ Bell stadium this evening, as he and his team-mates look to build on a hugely positive opening day of the season.
The Fijian international formed part of a potent midfield axis in the 35 – 8 win and is hoping his side can display a consistency in their performance when they take to the field this evening.
Speaking to Falcon TV, Matavesi said: “I’m looking forward to backing up last week’s performance. It’s really important for us as a team and as a squad to keep consistent performances.
“It’s no good the five pointer against Worcester and then going down to Sale and not picking up anything, so for us it’s massive this week to back up what we did last.”
Director of rugby Dean Richards has kept a largely settled side for this evening’s televised Aviva Premiership Rugby clash, with Matavesi lining up alongside Chris Harris in the centres, with Juan Pablo Socino ready to make an impact from the bench.
It is a line up that Matavesi says shows strong competition for places within the squad and an environment that is helping all of the squad play at their best.
He added: “You can’t afford to be dropping off because you know you have a world class player behind you who is ready to take your role. There’s no nastiness in it, it’s all for the good of the squad and I’m sure there’ll be a time where the roles are reversed so I am going to keep pushing myself and keep pushing the others.”
