Sam Lockwood is expecting a physical test against Sale Sharks on Friday evening when Aviva Premiership Rugby’s Northern derby lights up Kingston Park Stadium (KO 8pm)
The 29-year-old prop who returned to action from a lengthy injury lay-off back at the start of the year has been steadily accruing match minutes and is anticipating a highly entertaining match on Friday.
Speaking to Falcons TV ahead of the game, Lockwood said, “There’s no doubt about what they are going to bring, they are a big set of lads who are going to try and carry the ball hard and they have some flair players and they are not too dissimilar to ourselves.
“It’s going to be a really good battle all throughout the pitch and it should be a good one to watch and to play in.”
With the race for the play-off places reaching a crescendo as Newcastle and Sale join Leicester, Wasps, and Bath in contesting the remaining semi-final spots, Lockwood revealed that the team remain focused and are managing their excitement levels.
“Its great to have something to be playing for at the end of the season but we’re trying to be quite level-headed and not get too up or down with anything that is happening.
“We’re trying to be as consistent as possible as we have been so far with our preparations and I think that’s why we’ve been getting so many good performances.”
