Walder & Ward join former Falcons for #HaggisHike
Newcastle Falcons coaches Dave Walder and Micky Ward will be tackling the wilds of Northumberland over the course of the next two days, as they join an intrepid band of former Falcons in support of Doddie Weir.
The pair are part of an 11-strong team who are marching one of Jedburgh’s finest Haggis’ from the Scottish border to Kingston Park Stadium for a Burns Supper, which will be presented to Weir’s top table on Thursday evening.
Joining Gareth Archer, Gary Armstrong, Simon Best, James Cartmell, Stuart Grimes, Marius Hurter, Pete Massey, Jim Naylor, Ian Peel and Michael Stephenson, the team will tackle over 50 miles of arduous terrain and hostile conditions in order to present the Haggis to Doddie and raise funds for the Doddie Weir Foundation.
The brainchild of Grimes, the Haggis Hike will see the team head from Carter Bar to Wallington on day one, before completing the journey to the Falcons’ home ground on day two, with supporters welcome to join the group for the final four miles from Ponteland on Thursday afternoon.
Established following the former Falcons and Scottish international’s diagnose of Motor Neurone Disease, the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation’s mission is to raise funds to aid research into the causes of MND and investigate potential cures and to make grants to individuals suffering from condition to enable them to live as fulfilled a life as possible.
