Watch Future Falcons In Action This Wednesday

This Wednesday Newcastle Falcons’ Gosforth Academy AASE will take on their Saracens counterparts from Oaklands College in their first home fixture of the second round of the 2015 AASE League.

Kicking off at 5pm the game offers Falcons fans an opportunity to watch the next generation of Falcons in action on the Kingston Park Stadium pitch.

Already the Falcons AASE Scheme has made a significant contribution to the club’s playing squad, with 2013/14 Academy Player of the Season George McGuigan one of the first graduates of the programme and recent graduates Callum Chick, Dan Marshall and Joe Craggs all having represented the club in last month’s Singha Premiership Rugby 7s competition.

Wednesday’s game will be Gosforth’s first home game since their dramatic win over Moulton College in last year’s competition which was played as a curtain raiser for the Falcons’ European Rugby Challenge Cup game v Stade Francais.

Last week saw Gosforth narrowly lose 19-17 out to Myerscough College, home of Sale Sharks, in the first round of games.

Gosforth Academy is the Newcastle Falcons AASE Scheme host school. AASE stands for Achieving Academic and Sporting Excellence. Each Premiership Club has a formal attachment to an AASE College.

The school provides talented young players with an opportunity to enhance their rugby development whilst continuing in full-time education. Players will undertake 15 hours of rugby development each week, which is built into their timetable alongside their main A Levels/BTec courses.

The scheme is co-ordinated and supported by Newcastle Falcons Academy, with several members of Falcons Academy staff on hand to assist PJ Butler (AASE Scheme Manager) in the delivery of the programme.

Gosforth Academy competes in the RFU AASE League against other AASE colleges from which is arguably some of the most competitive school boy rugby in the country.

Wednesday’s game is free to watch with the Falcons East Stand open via the Tap & Tackle bar.
