Well received festival for U9s
U9 rugby players from across the region descended on Kingston Park Stadium ahead of the European Rugby Challenge Cup fixture against Grenoble, as the Falcons Community Foundation hosted their second match day festival of season 2016/17.
Running in the morning, ahead of the Falcons 50-7 win over the French side, over 35 teams from 23 clubs played games on both the main stadium pitch and the West training paddock with over 400 participants involved across the three hour event.
In addition to a fun opportunity to play, the youngsters in attendance were also visited by Evan Olmstead, Ally Hogg, Kyle Cooper and Davy Wilson who took time to take in the games, pass on tips and sign the all-important autographs whilst handing out team photos.
Following the morning’s games, participating players took to the stands with their complimentary tickets. Accompanied by coaches, family and friends they watched the Falcons put in an eight try performance and get their European campaign back on track.
Rob McDonnell, coach of Westoe’s U9s team said: “All my kids from Westoe had a great morning’s rugby and most stayed for the game and enjoyed the whole day at Kingston Park. I am sure it is something they will remember for a long time.”
Tim Green, from Keswick RFC said: “It was such a good festival at the weekend and having spoke to several of the players and their parents and they all agree what a great day it was and a brilliant opportunity for the kids. I’ve brought Keswick teams to several festivals in the past and would say that this was the best run.”
A regular feature of match days at Kingston Park, the Falcons Community Foundation festivals take place across the season, with dedicated events for age groups from under 7s to under 16s including the record setting Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup.
