WILSON GETS ENGLAND CALL
The Eyemouth-born tight-head prop, who signed professional forms for the northeasterners last year, is part of a 32-man squad which will look to defend the under-20s Six Nations title in the New Year before heading to France for the IRB Junior World Championship next June.
Falcons academy manager Mark Laycock said: “Scott has been a member of our academy since he was 14 and has taken big strides towards becoming an outstanding young player.
“I am delighted that Scott has been selected for the England under-20s squad and he deserves the chance to show what he can do on a bigger stage.
“He loves playing rugby and knows he still has a lot to learn as a tight-head prop, but most importantly he is prepared to roll his sleeves up and put the work in.”
Capped at under-18s level in addition to his under-20s call-up, Wilson is one of three Championship representatives in the squad.
Wilson featured in Monday’s Aviva A League North opener at Sale which the Falcons won 19-7 in front of the on-looking director of rugby Dean Richards. Scoring one of the three tries, Wilson will be bursting at the seams to get his chance to pull on the lily white jersey.
England head coach Stuart Lancaster said: “The England under-20 squad is once again a strong one and the amount of competition for places in each position reflects well on the work the regional academies at the clubs are doing.
“A lot of the players in this squad have come through our age group international programme and that goes to show how well the development pathway is working with players progressing through from the 18s into the under-20s, and then hopefully pushing for places in the Senior and Saxons Elite Player Squads.”
