Wilson Ready For Return Of International Rugby

Monday 24 August 2015 Written by: Adam

This weekend sees the return of international rugby to Kingston Park Stadium as the Falcons prepare to welcome the Georgian national team.

The side ranked 13th in the world will play the Falcons as part of their preparations for the 2015 Rugby World Cup this Autumn.

Friday’s game will be the second international match to take place at Kingston Park Stadium in recent years after the Falcons played Tonga in November 2012.

One man who recalls that match only too well is Mark Wilson, who recognises the importance of putting on such big showcase events for local rugby fans.

“It’s really exciting, not only for us but for the fans too, to be able to play a top ranked team in international rugby.”

And although the Falcons beat Tonga in their last international game, thanks in no small part to a try of the season contender from Wilson, the Back Row is under no illusions as to the quality of opposition his team will face this weekend.

“Georgia will be a really physical team, they are going to come really direct and they are a big set of lads who will be in peak condition. They’re at the end of their World Cup build up and they’ll all be fighting for places for that shirt for the following couple of weeks.”

However after a long pre-season without any competitive rugby, Wilson says the Falcons are keen to get involved and pitch themselves against such high quality opposition.

“It’ll be good for us. It’s always good to test yourself against the best players in the world, so it will be a real good marker of where we are at as well.”
