Wilson shines as England win in Newcastle

The forward, who joins Sale Sharks on loan in the coming months, played the full 80 minutes of Friday’s 37-0 victory over Italy in Newcastle with more than 50,000 supporters watching the final Rugby World Cup warm-up game.

Newcastle Falcons lock Greg Peterson, meanwhile, started for the USA in Saturday’s 20-15 victory over Canada in Vancouver.

Following the game Peterson was named in the Eagles’ Rugby World Cup squad, with the tournament starting in Japan on September 20.

Falcons scrum-half Sonatane Takulua kicked a conversion in Tonga’s 92-7 loss to world champions New Zealand, with wing Cooper Vuna on the wing for the Hamilton clash.

Prop Logovi’i Mulipola played the last 35 minutes of Samoa’s 34-15 loss to Australia in Sydney.
