Wilson shortlisted for Aviva Premiership Player of the Season
In the week he was called up to the England training squad the Cumbrian back-rower has been included on a six-man shortlist for the prestigious award, which will be presented at the Premiership Rugby Awards dinner in London on Wednesday night.
Joining Wilson on the list are Wasps pair Jimmy Gopperth and Joe Launchbury, Saracens’ Michael Rhodes, Exeter’s Olly Woodburn and Northampton forward Louis Picamoles.
The shortlist was compiled by a panel of media professionals – Chris Jones (BBC 5 Live), Ben Coles (Planet Rugby), Jill Douglas (Freelance), Alastair Eykyn (BT Sport), Alex Lowe (The Times), Nick Purewal (Press Association), Stephen Jones (Sunday Times), Jonny Fordham (The Sun), Sarah Mockford (Rugby World), and Nick Mullins (BT Sport). They were joined by Paul Morgan, Premiership Rugby’s communications director, who chaired the panel.
Another stellar season saw Wilson topping the Opta tackle count for the season, dotting down six tries in his 21 Aviva Premiership appearances as the Falcons recorded their highest league finish in 11 years.
