WOODEN SPOON PROGRAMME LAUNCHED ON WEDNESDAY 30TH JANUARY
The programme is designed to target non-traditional rugby areas and special schools which have little or no rugby activities. It is aiming to instruct teachers on how to continue these activities once the coaches have completed their project, hopefully engaging MLD/SLD students into sport for the longer term.
In attendance at the launch was the ex -falcons player and Wooden Spoon representative Michael Stephenson and current falcons player Luke Fielden. Michael stated “wooden spoon are delighted to support the project. Spoon’s objective is to make a positive impact on the lives of disadvantaged children and young people through our commitment to quality charitable work”.
The director of the Falcons Community Foundation Melanie Magee stated “ It is great to see these youngsters engaged in tag rugby and to see the smiles on their faces as they play. We aim to return value to the community through the work we deliver and have this sustained in the long term by those involved in the project with our support. “
The programme culminates in a celebration event at the Newcastle Falcons Vs Bristol game on Saturday 20th April.
