Worcester Warriors 12 – 40 Newcastle Falcons
Newcastle Falcons rounded off their Singha Premiership Rugby 7s group campaign in unbeaten form for the fifth consecutive year after beating Worcester Warriors 12-40 in the final game of the evening.
With the Falcons only three points ahead in the group table at the start of the game it was all to play for in the sixth game of the day as the top two teams took to the field.
The Warriors were first off the marks, George de Cothi touching down early in the game and converting to take it to 7-0.
It took the Falcons a while to reply but once they found their way to the line there was little stopping them, the hosts scoring two quick tries through James Fleming before Gavin Lowe touched down for the Falcons third on the stroke of half time.
Coming out after the break the home side were quick off the marks, Gavin Lowe collecting his fourth try of the evening and Scott Wight converting to take the score to 7-21.
Worcester replied soon after with a Josh Adams try.
Again the Falcons were quickly back in, James Fleming brought down on his way to the line but the ball going back out wide across the field to team mate James Johnstone who went over in the corner for the try.
Just minutes later Jamie Farndale added his name to the Falcons’ tally for the game, Wight again converting to take the score to 12-33.
But the home side weren’t finished, Singha Man of the Round Mark Robertson topping off a fantastic night by crossing the line to set the score at Worcester 12 – 40 Falcons.
Warriors’ loss unfortunately saw them fall out of the competition, Sale Sharks taking the runners up slot and progressing to next Friday’s series finals.
For the Falcons however it was another unbeaten evening in the group stages of the competition, three consecutive bonus point victories giving them a straight road to Twickenham Stoop for the next round of the competition.
