Zach Kerr signs new contract with Falcons

The 23-year-old has scored two tries in his 11 appearances for the Falcons, playing at wing and centre, and is in the final year of a law degree at Newcastle University.

The Northern Irish native said: “I’ve signed on for another two seasons, which I’m over the moon about.

“It’s a great place to play rugby, and with the squad we’re building and the results we’re starting to get it’s just a positive environment to be in. I’m excited about what’s in store for the Falcons over the next couple of seasons, and then away from rugby it’s a great place to live.”

Kerr has played five times for the Falcons this season, explaining: “This is my third season in the senior academy, and I’ve loved that time.

“Combining it with my degree has certainly kept me busy, but I’m in the final year of that now and can smash into the rugby from there.

“It’s great that the club have seen something in me and want me to stick around, and I’ll look to build on the work I’ve done over the last three years and push on from there.”

Forecasting a positive back end to the campaign, Kerr added: “Our last three league games at home in the league have seen us beating three good sides in Exeter, Sale and Leicester, and they’re three massive results.

“The Premiership table is ridiculously close, and we could easily find ourselves pushing for a play-off spot if we keep our focus and continue the momentum we’ve been building.”

Newcastle Falcons head coach Dave Walder said: “Zach is a really positive presence around the place who gives us options in a number of positions across the back line.

“He runs hard, he has captained the team in the Premiership Rugby Cup and hopefully he can keep improving over the course of the next two seasons.”
