The Falcons visit Gloucester on Saturday needing a win and results elsewhere to go in their favour if they are keep their survival hopes alive, but the former Ireland forward says the mood has not been dented by their position at the foot of the table.

“Everyone is still upbeat and wants to get the job done, and it’s still there for us,” said Ah You.

“The only thing we can do is win our last two games, look to win them well and finish off on a high from a performance point of view.

“We’re relying on other results too but we can’t influence that, so we’ll only worry about the things within our control.

“That starts with Gloucester on Saturday, and we need to go down there with a really positive mind-set. We need to really express ourselves, and make sure we take our opportunities.

“Whatever happens, we’ll do everything together. We win as a team and lose as a team, and everyone sings off the same hymn sheet here.”

Delighted at least to finally be back on a rugby field after battling against injury following his early-season signing from Ulster, the tight-head added: “It wasn’t an ideal situation to come over here with an injury and to then receive a couple of setbacks, but I’m so happy to finally be fit and involved in the games.

“I’m just hungry at the moment, I’ve been out for a long time and I wanted to make a statement.

“My main thing has been just to earn the respect of the boys, and I’m hopefully starting to do that.

“I’m just trying to be a positive influence around the place and to try and keep the boys’ spirits high, even though everyone knows it has been a bit of a tough time.”
