All you need to know about the Premiership Rugby Cup

Monday 04 September 2023 Written by: Alan

The main change to the format sees the inclusion of the 12 RFU Championship clubs, taking the total number of competing teams up to 22.

That means two pools of six and two pools of five, with each team playing five pool games.

Teams in pools of five will play an additional cross-pool fixture to ensure each club plays the same number of games during the pool phase.

The four pool winners will progress through to the semi-finals.

If clubs are level on points they are ranked by (in order) wins, points difference, points for, tries scored, fewest red cards, points scored in the head-to-head match and finally, if still level, the drawing of lots.

The four semi-finalists will be ranked on group performance, with the single-leg ties on the weekend of February 16/17/18 seeing 1 v 4 and 2 v 3, with seeds 1 and 2 being at home.

The final will be played on the weekend of March 15/16/17 at the home venue of the highest-ranked club.
