Newcastle Rugby Foundation’s Bamburgh Beach Festival on Saturday July 12 was a resounding success, welcoming over 200 players and more than 200 spectators and families to the beautiful Northumberland coastline for a day of inclusive rugby, community celebration and summer sunshine.

With the iconic Bamburgh Castle as the backdrop and the weather firmly on our side, the beach was buzzing with energy as teams took part in friendly, fast-paced competition under the new T1 rugby rules, led brilliantly by the Foundation’s coaching staff.

The atmosphere was electric, and we’re proud to announce our festival winners:

  • Medicals – Male category champions
  • Northumberland Wooden Spoon – Female category champions
  • Blobfishes – Girls 12-16 category champions

Congratulations to all the teams who competed and made the day so special.

This landmark event was made possible thanks to the incredible support from Northumberland Wooden Spoon and the Bamburgh Estate, whose commitment to the community and creating an amazing event was hugely appreciated. A special thank you also goes to Rainbow Jelly Face Painting, who added a splash of colour and creativity to the beach for children and families throughout the day.

The Bamburgh Beach Festival was a proud part of Newcastle Rugby Foundation’s role as Community Engagement Programme Partners for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025. Helping to grow the game and make rugby accessible and enjoyable for all.

the Foundation are incredibly grateful to everyone who came along, played, supported, wore a cap and helped bring this event to life. Here’s to many more unforgettable days like this on the road to #RWC2025 and you can explore more of their upcoming events here by clicking HERE.
