Botha looking forward to Parling match up
Mouritz Botha is looking forward to renewing rivalries with former Falcons Geoff Parlong this weekend, as the Falcons head for Sandy Park to take on Exeter Chiefs.
International team mates for England, the pair’s line out battle adds extra intrigue as the Falcons look to bounce back following last weekend’s match against Worcester, with Botha ready to pitch himself against the “Lord of the Lineout”
“I’m feeling good for the weekend and looking forward to playing against my old mate Geoff Parling, who loves his line outs! It will be a good challenge up against him and something I’m looking forward to.”
The battle up front will be a key area this weekend, with Botha identifying the Chiefs set piece play as a key area where the Falcons will need to compete.
“They have a good scrum and a very good driving and defensive maul that we are going to have to be on our game in those areas. We’re not just looking to contain them, we want to go out and dominate in those areas because if we do that, we are giving ourselves a chance to get the result as well.”
While speaking with Falcons TV, Botha was asked his thoughts on two of his young forward colleagues and their impressive seasons, with Botha stating he has enjoyed playing alongside them.
“It’s brilliant to play with both of them, Robbo has had a really good breakthrough season and has done a brilliant job, being really consistent and playing well. Wills is doing an incredible job. He’s been out of position recently but has still gotten around and done all the hard work.”
“I hope somewhere along the line there are some high honours for them.”
“I think Wills is an incredible workhorse, who will do the donkey work but also I think he is a special player. He has an X Factor and can create something for you, whether that’s by breaking a tackle or through a burst of speed.”
“Robbo’s the same, he is very mobile and fast and even in the outside channels, he is comfortable defending and can make those cover tackles.”
