The CAST volunteer group is supported by ELM Group and was formed back in 2018 to assist with the Heineken Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup.

Over the past five years the CAST group has grown significantly, with over 50 dedicated individuals volunteering their free time to help offer support services on match days.

The CAST play a huge role for spectators from wayfinding, ticket scanning, running the Newcastle Rugby Foundation Flutter lottery to helping with any ticketing issues.

The CAST group is an inclusive environment for people who may be facing challenges and barriers to participation.

The CAST offers a supportive environment for many volunteers suffering from anxiety, lack of confidence, disabilities, and loneliness. The CAST is a family.

Mary Walker, CAST volunteer manager, said: “Being a CAST volunteer manager has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.

“The group has helped so many people, from veterans with PTSD developing a new self-confidence, to helping people develop new skills to assist in getting a job and gaining their own independence.

“Over the past five years, I have been able to work with a wonderful group of people who are warm, kind and always willing to help. What more could you ask for?”

CAST volunteer David Wilson added: “The CAST is a diverse group and we all support each other.

“I have been involved in rugby for a number of years and always thought the sport produces a special community, and over the last few months of being a volunteer with the CAST I have come to realise that we are more than just a community, we are a family.”
