England 7s calling for Craggs, Dawson & Marshall
With the build up to the Singha Premiership rugby 7s continuing apace, Newcastle Falcons are delighted by the announcement that three members of the club’s senior academy will represent England in the Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa.
Joe Craggs, Ruaridh Dawson and Dan Marshall have all been named in the 12 man squad for the tournament which takes place from September 2 – 14.
Competing against teams from countries including Australia and Fiji, the trio will first take part in a two day training camp on August 24/25 where team leader Russell Earnshaw will put his charges through their paces.
Speaking about the Falcons representation in the squad, academy manager Mark Laycock said “I’m chuffed for the lads, it’s a fantastic opportunity to play for their country and to go an experience a different part of the world and their development will be all the better for it.”
There will be a lot of hard work between now and the tournament for them to be fully prepared for going over to Samoa, particularly in terms of the humidity, but I’ve no doubt they will meet that challenge and do both themselves and the club proud.”
