FALCONS BACKING THUNDER TO RUMBLE HAWKS
Newcastle Falcons are getting behind their sister club Gateshead Thunder ahead of tomorrow’s crunch Kingstone Press Championship 1 fixture against Hunslet Hawks for a match which will have a massive impact on the league side’s promotion prospects.
Officially becoming part of the Newcastle Rugby Ltd family at the end of May, Thunder have been enjoying their best season since 2008 and currently sit fifth in the final promotion play off place in their league.
Due to the restructuring of the Leagues in the 13 man code by the governing body RFL at the end of the season, five teams will fight it out for the one and only promotion and a victory for Thunder will enable them to take a massive step towards securing one of those five spots.
Giving his backing to Thunder, Falcons captain Will Welch took time away from pre season to meet Thunder’s new half back Jordan Meads and offer some words of support.
“We’re all taking a keen interest in what is going on at Thunder, and it was nice to meet Jordan and find out a bit more about how he is getting on and settling into the North East.”
“They’re going into this game on a bit of high after such a big win down at London Skolars last weekend and hopefully they can use that to build some momentum and push on and grab one of those play-off spots.”
Thunder’s match against Hunslet kicks off at Gateshead International Stadium at 8pm tomorrow evening and Falcons season ticket holders can gain entry for £5 per ticket. To claim your entry at this promotional price, simply present the SMS message we will be sending to the mobile phone number registered to your season ticket account at the turnstile tomorrow.
