FALCONS EUROPEAN OPPONENTS CONFIRMED
Playing in pool 3 of the competition, the Falcons will face Stade Francais, Newport Gwent Dragons and the yet to be confirmed FIRA 2 qualifying team.
Director of rugby Dean Richards was pleased with the results of the draw but admitted it would be a tough start to the competition for his side.
He said: “It’s a great pool but not an easy one for us. Stade Francais are a quality side full of stars. There’s a lot of experience there and up until the last six weeks of the season Stade were right in the mix for the French championship.
“Newport Gwent Dragons have recruited well under Lyn Jones and again, are a great side that we’re looking forward to playing against.”
Newcastle Falcons are one of five Aviva Premiership sides involved in the new competition, which will see them play each side in their pool twice at home and away. The best placed team in each pool and the three best second placed teams will then qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
