Entertaining the Greater Manchester club on 9 September, Leicester Tigers travel to the North East on 16 September before trips to Northampton Wanderers (30 September) and Gloucester United (7 September) respectively.

The Falcons complete their northern section campaign at home to Worcester Cavaliers on 28 October with the semi-finals and final to follow.

Newcastle’s second string, spearheaded by academy coach James Ponton and academy manager Mark Laycock, will be hoping to go one step further this campaign and secure themselves a place in the semi-final.

“Last year we just missed out on the semi-finals courtesy of a last minute try against Northampton which put us out of the race,” said Laycock.

He added: “This year we will be better prepared for the A League and we hope to progress further in the competition, and be the first Falcons ‘A’ team to make the final stages.”

The Falcons ‘A’ Team have two warm-up games ahead of Round 1 of the competition with Leeds Carnegie Under-23’s and Blaydon RFC scheduled to take on the northeasterners on 19 August and 31 August respectively.
