Falcons head to Mauritius for Beachcomber World Club 10s
The Premiership outfit will be one of eight professional invitation teams from around the globe who will compete for the prestigious title in the fast-paced rugby 10s format.
They will face formidable opponents, including defending champions the Vodacom Bulls, fellow South African giants the Cell C Sharks, French outfits Montpellier Herault and the French Pyrenees, and the Africa Pacific Dragons.
Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards said: “The Beachcomber World Club 10s is a great opportunity for us to spread the club’s name to a new part of the world.
“For those players lucky enough to go it will see them experiencing a stunning setting, and it will offer some of our squad members the chance for some valuable game time.”
The Beachcomber World Club 10s sees a shortened version of the XVs format mixed with some of the exciting elements of Sevens, with former South Africa national team coach Heyneke Meyer looking forward to the event.
Meyer, managing director of Carinat Sports Marketing, said: “We are eager to showcase great players and teams in this exciting format, and we are certain that spectators will enjoy superb matches between high-quality teams.
“This year we have also opened the tournament to amateur and social teams, who will take part in various categories, giving fans the chance to not only watch some great rugby but to compete in the event themselves as well.”
The Beachcomber World Club 10s, which also caters for amateur and social teams in separate divisions, offers fans the chance to enjoy a rugby party in a stunning island paradise.
