FALCONS HOST FIRST FESTIVAL OF THE SEASON

Monday 30 September 2013 Written by: Adam

The weather stayed dry and bright as the kids took to the pitches for a spectacular display of rugby. The West pitch was host to the under 14’s competition whilst the Under 13’s, 15’s and 16’s made the most of the space at Bullocksteads to play to their full potential.

With over 100 fixtures played on the day, the young stars did well to keep up their enthusiasm and energy, and some fantastic games were played. Our Academy coach James Ponton was in attendance to spot for any potential talent!

The festival could not have gone ahead without the fantastic efforts of the volunteers who worked tirelessly as pitch marshals, referee’s and referee co-ordinators on the day to make sure everything ran smoothly and to time, we would like to extend a huge thank you to all those who gave up their time to help out.

From 11am until 2pm the teams played their hearts out and enjoyed a fine day with some food and drinks from the falcon’s concourse. Teams from all over the North East and Cumbria were in attendance with some visitors even joining us from the borders. All of the teams were invited to Kingston Park after the tournament to watch the Falcons Vs Gloucester game.

Overall the team presented with the trophy from the Under 13’s group were Northern, sliding to a victory in the final over Whitley Bay Rockliff. Durham City took the Under 14’s crown whilst the under 15’s had Billingham beat Egremont in the final. Finally Westoe and Billingham battled it out in the Under 16’s final where Billingham again came away victorious. The winners were presented with their trophies on the pitch at half time whilst the runners up in each age group were invited to participate in the guard of honour.
Congratulations to all those who took part in fantastic day of rugby and we look forward to welcoming you to Kingston Park for our game against London Irish on 27th October.
