Falcons leap up the sports social media index
Newcastle Falcons saw the biggest improvement of any Premiership Rugby club in the recently released Sport Social Media Index 2014.
The index, which includes all 148 British professional football, rugby and cricket teams, ranks clubs according to the best use of social media by their official club channels.
Having debuted at twelfth in the Aviva Premiership in last year’s inaugural ranking, Newcastle Falcons rose seven places to fifth places in the 2014 index, the biggest improvement of any team within the league.
Although calculated on a number of factors, this sports social media index ranking comes after an increased focus on social media as a channel for both promotion and fan engagement by Newcastle Falcons.
The club has seen follower numbers across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube continue to rise steadily throughout 2014 while download numbers for the Falcons’ official mobile app are continuously growing as the club looks to increase use of this technology.
