Falcons to honour armed forces personnel on Sunday

Prior to the 3pm kick-off at Kingston Park Stadium there will be a two-minute silence and a rendition of the ‘Last Post’ before the laying of a wreath of poppies on the field.

The Poppy Appeal will be collecting inside the stadium, with the post-match festivities include a rugby game between the 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery and 4th Regiment Royal Artillery on the main field at 5.15pm. Seating for that game will be in the East Stand, with entry included in the price of your Falcons match ticket.

Between the two games, 3rd Regiment coach Andy Wilkinson will be inviting spectators to join in with him to complete 22 press-ups. The 22 press-ups is to raise awareness of PTSD in veterans and highlight the fantastic work that Combat Stress does.

Newcastle Falcons managing director Mick Hogan said: “We as a club have always enjoyed strong links with our armed forces, and fully appreciate the sacrifices they make for us.

“Sunday’s pre-match activities are an opportunity for us and our supporters to pay our respects for lives lost, and to those who have served in battle. Then at 5.15pm we have the opportunity to watch some current Army personnel playing the sport we all love.

“The Poppy Appeal will be inside the stadium collecting for what we all know is a fantastic cause, and it is only appropriate we continue to take such an active part in supporting our armed forces.”
