Festival fever grips The Big One

Festival fever is gripping Newcastle Falcons’ Big One at St James’ Park as the Falcons Community Foundation embarks on their biggest ever day of pre-match activity ahead of the Aviva Premiership Rugby clash against Northampton Saints.

Taking place at Kingston Park Stadium across the morning and early afternoon of Saturday 24 March over 160 teams will take part in junior games across two separate festivals, as the grassroots game plays a huge part in making the day a celebration of North East rugby.

Joining the hugely successful Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup for under 11s and under 12s, which at 100 teams is the biggest ever event, the annual festival for under 7s and under 8s has been added into the day’s programme to make the Big One even bigger with an additional 60 teams already registered.

Into its landmark tenth season, the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup is part of a series of nationwide events which provide aspiring young players the opportunity to play in competitive games in a format that is appropriate to their ages and stage of development.

One team from each age group will receive a trip to the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final on May 26, where they will meet a Land Rover rugby ambassador, join in a Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup ‘Testimonial Season’ Parade at half-time and hear which of them has won a club MVP award.

The two festivals will see clubs all around the region as well as Cumbria, the Borders and Yorkshire in attendance, offering participants not only the chance to play against teams they may not normally meet but also a free ticket to enjoy the big game at St James’ Park later that day.

While the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup is now at capacity, places remain available for under 7s and under 8s teams in that festival.
