Foundation celebrates HITZ students
Kingston Park Stadium was filled with pride as the Newcastle Rugby Foundation hosted a special event to honour the achievements of its HITZ students.
The gathering marked the end of a year’s hard work and dedication by the participants of the HITZ programme, an initiative designed to enhance the employability and personal growth of young people in the region.
HITZ is Premiership Rugby’s employability and enrichment initiative, which aims to prepare young individuals for work. The programme is particularly focused on supporting youths from socio-economically deprived areas who may have struggled within traditional educational settings. By partnering with Newcastle College, the programme offers a blend of formal qualifications and practical, skill-building sessions.
The event featured the presentation of certificates to all graduates, with four individuals receiving special recognition awards for their outstanding contributions and achievements throughout the programme.
Sam Stanfield was honoured with the Outstanding Bravery Award for his exceptional courage and resilience.
Charlie Cree received the Outstanding Personal Development award, highlighting his significant growth and progress.
Jai Wilson-Smith was celebrated with the Outstanding Coaching Award, recognising his exemplary coaching skills.
Lastly, Katie Bolton was awarded Outstanding Volunteer, commending her dedication and selfless contribution to the community and the Foundation.
All received a certificate of recognition and a signed Newcastle Falcons shirt, which Newcastle Falcons player Kiran McDonald presented.
Following the awards ceremony, the event transitioned into a jobs fair. Here, HITZ graduates had the invaluable opportunity to engage directly with local businesses, ask questions and gain insights into various career paths.
This interaction not only provided practical knowledge but also helped to build confidence and professional networks.
We want to thank the British Army, Northumbria Police, Hitachi Construction Machinery UK, Coach Core, Digital Safety CIC, Beamish Museum, Newcastle CIC Careers Advisor, Groundwork, North East Badminton Centre, Newcastle Rugby Foundation and Newcastle Falcons Staff for their support with this.
The morning was a resounding success, filled with inspiring stories of personal triumph. The Newcastle Rugby Foundation extends its thanks to all attendees, including the local businesses that participated and supported the HITZ graduates.
