Green targets further improvement
The lock was part of the side which defeated Bristol 19-14 at Kingston Park Stadium on Saturday, building a 19-0 interval lead but allowing the visitors back into the game.
Green said: “It was definitely a flat changing room afterwards because the boys are frustrated with themselves.
“We were well up in the game and hoping to get that bonus point, but for whatever reason we came out for the second half and were a bit scrappy. It’s something we are going to have to look at, but I suppose we are happy to have got the win at least.
“During the first half our attacking shape was pretty good, boys were running hard off ten and in the second half we just didn’t do as much of that. We put ourselves into a position we should never have been in, we should have been a few more scores ahead and it was frustrating that we had to hang on like we did at the end.”
Looking at the wider picture after the first batch of Premiership matches came to a close, he added: “If someone had had said you’d win half of your first six games, take two losing bonus points and be in the top half of the league, I think we’d have taken that. But it’s a weird one because we look at it and think ‘what if we’d beaten Leicester and Worcester’.
“We should have won both of those games, that would have put us in an even better position but if you contrast this year with last year it’s a totally different scenario.
“The frustrating thing is we have shown how much potential we have, but are not consistent enough in finishing the job. If we play to our full potential we can really kick on, but we are definitely making progress.
“We have made a decent start, all things considered, but we can’t rest on our laurels now. We need to kick on, and how we do that will be the true test of this group. One thing I do know, with the coaches we have here, they won’t tolerate guys slacking off.”
