Hammersley trains with Saxons as Young retains place

Newcastle Falcons Michael Young retains his spot on the England Saxons bench for Friday’s second match against South Africa A, as the side look to seal the series after taking a well earned 24-32 win in Bloemfontein last weekend.

Training alongside Young this week, has been club-mate Simon Hammersley, who has spent the week with the squad training, in the build up to the game in George.
Being called into the Saxon’s squad is the latest step in what has been a rapid rise for the 23 year old, who joined the Falcons in the summer of 2014 straight out of Durham University.

He shone during that year’s pre season programme, he earned a first Aviva Premiership start in the opening game of 2014/15 away to Leicester Tigers and has since gone on to establish himself in the senior squad, having made 45 appearances to date in all competitions.

Friday’s game kicks off at 18:10 BST and is broadcast live in the UK on Sky Sports 3.
