Immediate return seen as high praise by Furno
Josh Furno is excited about making an immediate start for Newcastle Falcons after his return from World Cup duty and his inclusion on the bench for this evening’s match against Gloucester.
The second row returned to Kingston Park on Tuesday after the Azzuri’s campaign concluded with a 32-22 win over Romania at Sandy Park and was immediately enthused by the atmosphere at the club and the excitement of his team mates.
“I’m really looking forward to coming back and playing for the Falcons, it’s always good to be back with your club, all the boys are really excited to start the season and it gives you an extra boost.”
“I’m coming straight back in after the world cup and any tiredness or bruises are overcome with that excitement, it makes you excited too!”
Having started all four of his country’s pool matches in his first world cup, his value and experience sees him immediately back on Falcons duty, something that Furno takes as a huge compliment.
“I’m happy to come straight in, it means the club is looking at me as a player they want to be involved in the team. I’m on the bench this weekend; I’ve not spent much time with the team lately so that means I can get used to the systems and the structures.”
Expecting an exciting start to the league season, Furno envisages both sides playing a high tempo game as they look to start the new campaign with a win.
“It’s the first game of the season so both us and Gloucester will be pumped up for the game and want to get a good result. The way you start a season can set up the tone for the rest of it and I think its going to be a really interesting one.”
