International round-up as Falcons players do battle
The Falcons had three players on Canadian national team duty on Saturday night, taking on Uruguay in Montevideo.
Winger DTH van der Merwe scored two tries in a 32-31 defeat, with Evan Olmstead and Jake Ilnicki also starting.
The defeat means Canada miss out on qualification for Rugby World Cup 2019 as the ‘Americas 2’ team, and must now go through the repechage system in November to secure their place in Japan.
Canada’s next game is against the USA on Saturday in Sacramento, California.
Newcastle lock Nick Civetta started for the USA last weekend as they started the Americas Rugby Championship with a 17-10 victory over an Argentina XV in Carson, California.
The Falcons had three players in the Scotland squad for Saturday’s Six Nations opener, as they were beaten 34-7 by Wales in Cardiff.
Chris Harris and Jon Welsh started the game, with Scott Lawson coming on from the bench. Scotland’s next game is on Sunday, when they host France.
Newcastle flanker Gary Graham, meanwhile, was a travelling reserve for England during their 46-15 win over Italy in Rome. England’s next assignment is at home to Wales on Saturday.
There is international rugby at Kingston Park Stadium this Friday when England Under-20s host Wales Under-20s. For tickets call 0871 226 6060 or [**click here**][1].
