Italian flyer latest to land at Newcastle Falcons
Newcastle Falcons have added further international class to their 2015/16 squad with Italian international winger Giovanbattista Venditti joining on a two year deal.
The 25 year old makes the move to Kingston Park from Italian Pro 12 Zebre with a reputation as a fast powerful winger, who is equally adept in the centres.
Standing 6’ 2” and weighing just under 18 stone, Venditti brings with him a wealth of experience having 27 caps for the Azzurri to his name along with 49 appearances in the Guinness Pro 12.
He made his international debut against France in the 2012 RBS 6 Nations and scored his first international try in his second cap against England in the same tournament.
The move will see Giamba reunite with former Aironi team mate Sinoti Sinoti and current international team mate Josh Furno, when he reports for duty following Italy’s Rugby World Cup campaign.
Speaking on his move, Venditti said: “I’m really excited about the move and the team, it is a big experience for me and my family and I can’t wait.”
“I really like this pitch and the stadium is beautiful. I’m excited to play and train somewhere like this.”
“Josh [Furno] has told me about the club and what it is like and I am really looking forward to playing here.”
Falcons Director of Rugby Dean Richards said: “Giamba is a strong player with quick feet and good hands who likes to attack the space. He is also strong in contact and is going to give us plenty of options next season, with his ability to play both centre and wing.”
“He’ll arrive with us after Italy conclude the World Cup campaign and we’re all looking forward to working with him once he arrives.
