Lock-forward John Hawkins has signed a new one-year deal with Newcastle Falcons.

The 28-year-old has made 32 appearances since joining from Jersey Reds, having previously played for Bristol Bears after coming through Northampton Saints’ academy.

Standing at 6 foot 5, Hawkins said: “I’m very excited to be signing on for another year.

“The club gave me a chance two seasons ago which I’ll always be grateful for, and hopefully I can keep wearing the jersey and giving it my best.

“It’s an exciting time to be part of the club and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into the new season.”

Director of rugby Steve Diamond said: “John is a hard-working player who will always put a shift in.

“He gives us options in the second row and at six, and he sets a great example for our younger players with the professionalism he shows around the place every single day.”
