Man Of The Match Tipuna Pleased With Return Outing
Newcastle Falcons Fly Half Ruki Tipuna went into Friday’s game simply wanting to “get back out there and hoping that my fitness would hold out.”
So a Man of The Match-winning performance which helped his side towards a 27-7 victory over the Georgian national side, Tipuna cut a happy figure.
Speaking to Falcons’ TV the New Zealander said: “It was a good first hit out and we’re happy with how it went. There’s still lots to work on but it’s a good first start.”
It was a dynamic performance from the Falcons, with everyone playing their part to help the home side towards a five-try victory, Tipuna’s omnipresence on the field was particularly noticeable.
“I was tired afterwards but that’s the way Dave’s got us attacking. He wants us to move the ball and as a nine you have to be all over the field, it’s tough but that’s the way we want to play.”
Coming up against a physically imposing Georgian side though it wasn’t just Tipuna’s pace which impressed, the former New Zealand 7s player taking on even the largest of opponents.
“I’m not made for those big tackles but it’s part of what you do for the team and comes with the territory.”
