More names and kit unveiled for Tankie’s Battle

The 7.45pm kick-off at Kingston Park is to raise funds for Paul Van-Zandvliet and associated good causes, the former Falcons prop having recently been diagnosed with inoperable cancer.

Tank, as he was known through his illustrious playing career, was a key part of the Falcons side which lifted the 1997-8 Premiership title, his former team-mates rallying round to raise funds for a trust set up in the name of his eight-year-old daughter, Hope Elle.

That initiative has seen a Falcons Legends side assembled to play against a North East Select XV, the latest wave of players committing to playing in the game includeing ex-Italian international Carlo del Fava.

He will be joined by fellow second-row Jason Oakes, former England wing Michael Stephenson, ex-Scotland fly-half Phil Godman, Andy Perry, Jimmy Cartmell, Ian Chandler, Steve Douglas, Darren Towart, Mark Beattie, Ross Wilkinson and Darren Towart.

Players already confirmed for Tankie’s Battle include Micky Ward, Tom May, Stuart Grimes, Dave Walder, Garath Archer, Gary Armstrong, Steve O’Neill, Stuart Legg, Jim Naylor, Mike Wood and Dean Ryan.
