The club’s TV advert will premiere on Saturday March 10 around ITV’s Six Nations coverage, appearing again around the March 17 Six Nations games having been shot at St James’ Park this week by national production company Boffin & Beau.

The ad forms part of a pre-match marketing blitz which also includes four weeks of advertising on Heart and Capital Radio, the Tyne & Wear Metro, outdoor digital and 48 sheet billboards, plus a major social media push.

The Big One sees Newcastle Falcons playing an Aviva Premiership game against Northampton Saints at the home of Newcastle United, the 5.30pm kick-off being preceded by a 3pm match between Newcastle University and Northumbria University.

Falcons commercial director Mick Hogan said: “This advert will reach beyond our usual audience and will hit non-rugby people, with excitement continuing to build for what promises to be a huge sporting occasion.

“We were lucky enough to have a dozen first-team players filming the advert at St James’ Park this week, with some award-winning performances despite the sub-zero temperatures!”

“We originally set ourselves a target of 20,000 tickets for the game and we are almost at 18,000, so we are confident we can meet our benchmark. The response of people within the region and beyond has been fantastic, and we hope that will continue to grow as The Big One draws closer.”
