Falcons’ fans dug deep, with the club able to make over 30 full food packages from the items dropped off at Kingston Park Stadium.

Newcastle Falcons players Connor Collett and Greg Peterson assisted Newcastle Rugby Foundation in delivering the donations to the Phoenix Detached Youth Project.

The Phoenix Food Bank was set up in 2013 by the Phoenix Detached Youth Project, a charity operating in an area that falls within the top 1.6% for deprivation in England.

Mike Burgess, manager of the Phoenix Detached Youth Project, said: “We see food parcels as a short-term solution which allows us to then work on a long-term solution to help people to break out of the cycle of poverty.

“We are proud to have links with Falcons Community who have introduced some of the key beliefs of rugby into young people’s lives by encouraging them to take up the sport.”

The foundation has donated to Phoenix Food Bank for many years, and links up with them to engage and transition participants on their programme into rugby clubs, such as North Shields RFC, via Project Rugby.
