Radwan races to Breakthrough Player award
Premiership Rugby can today confirm that Newcastle Falcons winger Adam Radwan has won this season’s Anglo-Welsh Cup Breakthrough Player Award.

Launched in 2012, the Breakthrough Player Award celebrates and recognises under-23 players who have stood out in the tournament, with previous winners including the likes of Jack Nowell, Jonny May and Tom Collins.
Using OPTA match statistics, a forward and back from each round were shortlisted, with a further two wildcards added for their performances across the whole competition, forming a ten-man vote.
Radwan was shortlisted following his performance in Newcastle Falcons’ opening Anglo-Welsh Cup victory over Wasps that saw him cross the whitewash either side of half-time in a thrilling 53-41 triumph.
In addition, no player gained as many metres as the Falcons wing (150), as he made three clean breaks and beat nine defenders, while only Exeter Chiefs’ James Short, who had over twice as many carries (15) as Radwan, beat more defenders than the Newcastle man in the opening round.
Radwan followed that up with his third try of the tournament a week later as the Falcons racked up a 57-0 victory over Cardiff Blues, en route to reaching the semi-finals.
In winning the Anglo-Welsh Cup Breakthrough Player Award Radwan will receive a Perpetual Chrono A.T watch courtesy of Premiership Rugby partner Citizen, while Gilbert, Official Ball and Rugby Clothing Partner of Premiership Rugby, will supply £1,000 worth of kit to a grassroots club of his choice.
Gloucester Rugby’s Jake Polledri finished second in the voting, while Will Jones of the Ospreys was third.
