Joining Newcastle Falcons in summer 2009 Shiells played a key role in the squad during the 2011-12 season, although problems with injury led to fans seeing less of him in more recent years.

Following the club’s return to the Aviva Premiership in 2013, injury limited Shiells to only two starts for the team, with a further five appearances from the bench throughout the season.

Originally from the Border town of Kelso, 24-year-old Shiells has been capped for Scotland at Under-19s, 20s and A-Level. During his time with the Falcons he made 97 appearances for the club.

Director of rugby Dean Richards said: “Grant is a talented young prop who has regularly shown the strength of his game during our time with us.

“During recent years Grant has been troubled by injury but I hope that he stays injury-free for the seasons ahead and wish him all the best at Bath, and hopefully for his career with Scotland too.”
