The 44-man squad has been split into north and south groups, with Falcons players Mark Dormer, Ewan Greenlaw, Louie Johnson, James Naylor, Guy Pepper and Oli Spencer joining up in York on September 26-27.

Newcastle academy manager Mark Laycock said: “It’s great news for the lads, and also for the Falcons to have more players selected than any other club.

“That’s a first for us, and is testament to the talent and work that the boys have put in.”

“These players got quite a bit of game time for our own under-18s team last season as we made our first national finals day, which was another milestone, and it’s pleasing to see such a strong representation.”

Laycock added: “They have this two-day camp in September, which is normally followed by a longer camp during October half-term and then again at the end of November and in February.

“They then typically move into their playing programme, leading into the Six Nations in April, although the schedule is obviously still a little bit up in the air bearing in mind all the disruption for Covid-19.

“We’ll just have to wait and see what gets confirmed as the season goes on, but for the time being it’s great to have so many lads in the England picture.”
