Not content with bringing the Falcons family together and rallying travelling fans to support the team on the road, our Supporters Club have also been playing their part this closed season in helping the Falcons prepare for their return to the Aviva Premiership.

This closed season the Falcons Supporters Club has funded telegraph poles and ropes to be used in pre-season training, as well as crucial modifications to the club’s scrummaging machine.

Supporters Club Chairman Harry Sharp, with funding from the 500 Club Lottery, has also revamped the team dugouts at Kingston Park in preparation for the Falcons’ return to English rugby’s top flight.

Falcons commercial director Duncan Edward commented: “The backing we get from our Supporters Club throughout the season is very much appreciated by everyone at the Falcons, we are particularly grateful this season for the funding they have provided to allow us to improve our facilities and training equipment heading back into the Premiership.

“Over recent months we’ve worked increasingly closely with the Supporters Club and look forward to continuing that relationship to help provide the best and most cohesive experience possible of both the Falcons and Supporters Club for all of our fans.”

As in previous seasons, the Falcons Supporters Club will also continue their tradition of sponsoring two players during 2013-14; this year the club have chosen to sign Richard Mayhew for a second season while also taking on the role of sponsors to Ireland under-20 international George McGuigan for his third season with the club.

Supporters Club chairwoman Julia Bradley said: “We funded the telegraph poles and some rope for the players. We were asked about the dugouts but in the event Harry Sharp managed to get the necessary materials for free, which was great as I know Micky Ward and Dean Richards were both keen to have them. Harry also used his considerable people skills to negotiate some work to be done for free on the scrummage machine – which is great.

“The Supporters Club is happy to be able to help having seen some great results both at home and away last season. The funding was in addition to our player sponsorship, and we have done similar things in previous years when we funded the redecoration of changing rooms and put funds towards new shoe racks for the boys’ Jimmy Choos!

It’s important that the club and supporters continue to work together as the cohesion between the two can make all the difference; small things matter a great deal when looking at the overall impact of welfare and general contentment of both players, training staff and supporters. Let’s hope it all comes together nicely next season and we see some great wins!”

The Falcons Supporters Club hosts a number of social events and talk in sessions with players and coaches throughout the season, whilst also providing organised fan trips to the vast majority of Falcons away fixtures.
