Second row Glen Young will take to the field in his fourth Singha Premiership Rugby 7s tournament on Friday evening and is looking forward to getting his first games of the season under his belt.

The 22-year-old Scotland U20s cap has a good pedigree in the annual competition for all 12 Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs and the four Welsh professional regions and is hoping his side can enjoy more success at Franklins Gardens this weekend.

Speaking to Falcons TV, Young said: “It’s a bit different, we do a lot of fifteens training in pre-season so it’s good to get another test of fitness and get a run around and play some proper rugby.

“I’m really looking forward to it and it’s good for some of the new boys to show what they can do.”

With an excellent record in the competition, the Falcons have this year named a side that blends youth and experience, with Young hailing the balance of the side.

He added: “We’ve got some very exciting players, we’ve got Cam Cowell who’s a former England 7s player and Adam Radwan, who featured for us last year and who has got bags of pace but we’ve got a few who are a bit different, like Gary Graham and Harrison Orr who will bring a bit of physicality. I think we’ve got a good balance.”
