Winning start for Foundation college team

The first ever fixture for the Falcons Community Foundation team ended in a solid 38 – 12 win over Gosforth Academy 2nd XV last week, marking a successful start to the new programme,

Ran in conjunction with Tyne Met College, the team is made up of students aged 16 – 18 and who are studying as part of a Level 3 BTEC Sports Qualification.

Training at Kingston Park Stadium, the course offers its cohort the opportunity to play and train within a professional environment while working towards the qualification.

Made up of players from across North East and Cumbria, clubs represented by the players in the first game were Alnwick, Keswick, Morpeth, Northern, Percy Park, Ponteland, Rockcliff, South Shields Westoe and West End RFC.

Having trained for just one week ahead of the opening fixture, both teams served up a free-flowing game, with tries for the Foundation side coming from Will Robinson (x2), Liam Shipperlee (x2) Lewis Anderson and Connor Madden.

Mike Hansen added four conversions on the afternoon, with the next game taking place at Kingston Park Stadium on Wednesday 27th September against Hartlepool 6th Form, KO 2 PM.
