50 NOT OUT FOR MAYHEW & MACLEOD
Mayhew, 28, and MacLeod, 35, who recently penned two-year and one-year deals respectively, have become a firm fans’ favourite during their stints on Tyneside.
The pair have been a cornerstone of the Falcons pack since arriving, with Kiwi back-row Mayhew already targeting another 50 appearances for Newcastle.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time here and I’m looking forward to an exciting future and what this club can achieve long-term,” said the Auckland-born big hitter.
“The North East is a great place to live and I love it – you have got the beaches, the countryside and the people are really friendly, but most importantly there is a great bunch of guys at the club who have a lot of endeavour.
“I will always give 100% for the club every time I put the Falcons jersey on, and that’s the plan again this weekend. The Aviva Premiership is an extremely tough competition but if we continue to work hard the performances and results will come,” he added.
Meanwhile, fellow teammate and legendary character MacLeod is also relishing the Easter Sunday blockbuster.
And in the build-up to the clash the veteran lock reveals his current side is the hardest working team he has ever played in.
He said: “The lads are constantly working for each other every week, whether it is in training or on a match day. We just need to execute some quality into our game and things will work out.
“The effort we showed in the second half last week should have been replicated in the first half and that was a real frustration for everyone.”
You can read more from Mayhew and MacLeod in your official matchday programme which includes an interview with England Women’s captain Katy Mclean, a rundown on our visitors plus your chance to win a pair of tickets for the Exeter Chiefs match on the final day of the season.
