Equality, diversity & inclusion

Equality, diversity & inclusion

Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. Sport can awaken hope where there was previously only despair. Sport speaks to people in a language they can understand – Nelson Mandela

Sport has the unique ability to lead the way when it comes ensuring a world that continues to progress when it comes to equality and diversity. By inspiring positive change within the game. We can contribute to building an inclusive society we can all be proud of. In this policy “Protected Characteristic” means age, disability, gender reassignment, marital or civil partner status, pregnancy or maternity, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.

At Newcastle Rugby Ltd we are committed to providing equal opportunities in both employment and the sport of Rugby and recognise the importance of ensuring every individual who interacts with our business is treated fairly and is given equal opportunities regardless of any Protected Characteristics.

By providing a more diverse and inclusive environment we can ensure our club is an inviting place for everyone and build a fan and customer base with a lifelong affinity for Newcastle Rugby, Newcastle Falcons, Newcastle Thunder and Falcons Events, as well as improve the perception of the sport we love and ensure we meet the demands of fans, followers and participants.

Our aims

  • Ensure that the principles of equality and diversity are owned and are embedded throughout the entire Company staff and that those principles are fulfilled from the top of the Company down to our casual workers.
  • Improve our understanding of equality and diversity issues within our Company by better understanding the equality and diversity profile of our sport and Company.
  • Raise awareness of and embed the principles of equality and diversity throughout our Company by regularly reviewing our policies, procedures and practices to ensure they are inclusive, do not discriminate and provide information for clubs, coaches, officials and members to help them tackle inequality and discrimination in rugby, as well as provide regular refresher training for the entire Company.
  • Understand and tackle barriers for under-represented groups in rugby and bring rugby to new audiences encouraging all sections of society to participate in our sport.

Our equality, diversity and inclusion statement Newcastle Rugby and its subsidiaries – Newcastle Falcons, Newcastle Thunder and Falcons’ Events – are committed to encouraging and improving equality, diversity and inclusion among our workforce, and eliminating unlawful discrimination in employment and in providing goods, services and facilities to our customers and the wider community.
